Wright State University Creative Arts Center
The Kleingers Group provided landscape architecture, civil engineering and surveying services for this addition and renovation to the existing Wright State University’s Creative Arts Center. Site design included improvements to the building’s two primary entrances as well as other outdoor spaces. At the main entrance, a new drop-off welcomes visitors while a long, linear accessible ramp and diminishing steps and seatwalls extend the architecture into the site. A new pedestal paver plaza on top of existing structure solve a discrepancy in elevations at the other entry while new walks strongly connect this site with the adjacent library and campus beyond. Lastly, between two wings of the building is the Music Plaza, a crushed granite plaza designed to create an intimate outdoor setting for smaller gatherings.
The Kleingers Group worked closely with the architect to integrate the building into the site. Through the use of stained concrete, pavers, stone, plant material and grading, the site reinforces the forms of the addition while supporting the architect’s idea that the building is floating in the landscape.
