Ohio University Nelson Commons
The Kleingers Group, working closely with the Architect, provided Landscape Architecture and Civil Engineering Services for the Nelson Commons Dining Hall renovation project located on Ohio University’s South Green. As Landscape Architect, Kleingers designed an aesthetically pleasing curvilinear walkway that connects to a new hardscape area on the east side of McKinley Avenue. The hardscape was designed taking into account the existing hillslope while also creating an ADA accessible area. The sodded hillslope provides an area for students to sit and relax and take advantage of green space views. To match the beautiful Georgian style of the building, a curvilinear brick retaining wall with a limestone cap and end columns was designed to create a beautiful entranceway into the building. New bike racks were incorporated into the design and located to be convenient to entrances while not detracting from the welcoming feel of the building entrance plaza. To ensure aesthetic rhythm throughout the campus, the bike racks were selected to meet the University standards.
