Ohio River Trail: Collins to Corbin
The Kleingers Group provided planning, surveying, and design services to the City of Cincinnati for the ninth segment of the six-mile Ohio River Trail. This one mile segment of the trail connects an existing trailhead near Corbin Street to Collins Avenue at Riverside Drive, just west of the Anderson Township property. The path was constricted by several difficult right of way challenges including existing baseball and field areas, St. Rose Church, GCWW pump house, and a Duke Energy Facility. Design included generating multiple alternatives to identify the preferred bike path routing. Kleingers also drafted a project plan to provide environmental clearance needed for potential future FHWA funding sources for construction. Viewing areas with park like settings were created to take advantage of the path’s relationship to the Ohio River. A significant portion of the project was focused on pedestrian and bicyclist safety near roadways and at roadway crossings. Public involvement was a crucial part of the planning process. In addition to hosting public meetings, Kleingers also created a 3D model to ‘fly through’ the project area, which helped educate residents and provide a better understanding of the proposed changes. Public feedback helped determine the preferred alternative.
