Miami University Western Campus Landscaping and Site Improvements
The Kleingers Group performed landscaping, area lighting, stream restoration, site grading, traffic management, stormwater management and the construction of a new pedestrian circulation route through Miami University Western Campus area as part of site improvements completed in partnership with Boston-based landscape architecture firm CRJA. The project supports three new residence halls and a new dining hall for which The Kleingers Group also performed the site design. This project also features an approximately 150’ pedestrian bridge and the design of pedestrian and vehicular pavements. Work included the reconstruction of the existing west patio of Havighurst Hall, transforming the existing space into a new “front door” gateway to the building. Low maintenance sustainable plantings were used alongside two pedestrian plazas to create a flowing aesthetic with vast sweeping drifts of ornamental grasses and combinations of mixed perennials. The layered plantings mimic a natural meadow and intertwine with the deconstructed edges of the neighboring plazas. A variety of unique tree species were used to expand the university’s horticulture walk, reinforce pedestrian corridors, and create the park like atmosphere for which Western Campus is known.
