The Kleingers Group provided civil engineering design and surveying for the $54 million mixed use urban development project in Over-the-Rhine known as Mercer Commons. This exciting public private partnership project will add 154 residential units to the growing downtown Cincinnati housing market along with 17,600 square feet of new commercial space and 359 parking spaces. The 2.6 acre densely developed project will also include nearly 30,000 square feet of open green space.
This multi-phased project includes building renovation, new building construction, a 359 car parking garage, and a public water main replacement. Grading and utility coordination with existing utilities and surrounding physical constraints presented many challenging issues in regards to avoiding utility conflicts and maintaining ADA compliant accessible routes. An innovative drywell system design was used in lieu of a standard detention system to reduce the environmental impact of storm water runoff to the combined sewer system. We also coordinated sidewalk grades and utility locations for the streetscape design with the City of Cincinnati.
