Maple Dale Elementary School
Blue Ash, Ohio
The Sycamore Community School District, under the guidance of a design team which included The Kleingers Group, demolished the outdated elementary school and built a new Maple Dale Elementary School and Board of Education Building on the existing site. The Maple Dale campus is on a property that is split between Blue Ash and Montgomery, Ohio. Residents of the district feared that this would cause a project hurdle, but were pleasantly surprised when the planning and design teams decided to meet the stricter zoning codes whenever they differed.
The landscape architecture for the site included a mile-long walking trail through the campus highlighting the playground areas, science garden, art garden, memorial plaza, and bio-retention areas. The memorial plaza includes engraved brick pavers, landscaping, and seating. The science garden includes a rain gauge, barometer, bio-retention plantings, butterfly garden, and sundial. Although Maple Dale Elementary was not an OFCC project, the focus on sustainability and child-friendly designs make it very similar to many OFCC projects.
