GE Aviation Episcenter
GE Aviation located a new Electrical Power Integrated Systems Research and Development Center (EPISCENTER) on the University of Dayton campus. The Kleingers Group was hired to complete the land surveying, civil engineering and landscape architecture for the $53 million center. The public-private project was built on approximately eight acres on the University of Dayton’s campus on River Park Drive. The 115,000-square-foot facility was completed in late fall of 2013. The center is directed at several markets, including end-to-end electrical power starter/generation, conversion, distribution and load technologies for civil and military aerospace applications. The facility is owned by University of Dayton, while GE will have a long term lease and will operate the facility.
The design process was unique with the national architect, construction manager, owner, tenant, engineers, & financiers all being a part of the design team meetings. This unique collaboration created a true team environment that has remained throughout the construction of the project. It is Kleingers’ opinion that by incorporating all of these entities in the design process, the owner and tenant wound up receiving a superior product with few surprises. The project was recently awarded Best Economic Development Project in the State of Ohio.
