Forest Square Senior Housing Development
Forest Square Senior Housing is recognized as Ohio’s first LEED-Certified affordable housing development. The vertically organized three-story facility, houses 21 two-bedroom units at approximately 1,000 sf each, along with support spaces that include an activity area and community space for social gatherings. The Kleingers Group provided land surveying, overall site civil design, landscape design, as well as its LEED expertise to help the development team meet the stringent requirements of the United States Green Building Council’s LEED Certification program. It was a priority of the team to develop the site responsibly; careful design considerations included specific attention towards site security and safety, landscape buffering, courtyard design, and community gardens featuring native plantings.
The design also channels storm water into an underground detention basin to help with site constraints and meet local detention requirements. This allowed additional space for the building, parking lot, usable open space, and interior landscaping. The project has achieved LEED-Silver status. The achievement represents the commitment not only to the residents served, but to the surrounding environment and future generations.
