City of Franklin I-75 Interchange Community Gateway
Franklin, Ohio

The Kleingers Group created the landscape architecture beautification enhancement plans at the interchange of 1-75 and State Route 123 for the City of Franklin.  This ODOT project included landscaping the entire interchange area, providing community gateway signage, as well as screening an adjacent ODOT maintenance facility. The project goal served to beautify the interchange and further promote the established Franklin brand. The City of Franklin desired a unique and beautiful landscaped interchange that communicated “Franklin” to both citizens and visitors to the community. The landscape design embraces this beautiful aesthetic while also providing planting that is hardy, drought tolerant, and salt tolerant while providing for low maintenance. Vegetation is designed in mass plantings that are angled on the hillside for a dramatic aesthetic. The design consists of plantings with year round interest to create a visually appealing interchange throughout the year. Plantings consist of ornamental grasses, flowering shrubs, deciduous shrubs, and evergreen shrubs.  The project was funded through the Federal Transportation Enhancement program and local funds.
