In 2007, Kleingers & Associates completed the civil engineering design for Ohio's first LEED Silver-certified public K-12 school, Pleasant Ridge Montessori. Designed by Steed Hammond Paul (now SHP Leading Design) for Cincinnati Public Schools, the project has met the number of credits needed for new construction projects to earn certification at the Silver level. To reach that goal, our LEED-accredited civil engineer and project designer concentrated on reducing pollution derived from construction activity, favoring low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles in parking plans, and providing a high ratio of open space in relation to the development footprint to promote biodiversity.
In 2009, Pleasant Ridge Montessori was awarded the Cincinnati Sustainability Awards for "Best in Show" and "Local Favorite". The Cincinnati Chapter of AIA (American Institute of Architects) COTE (Committee on the Environment) coordinated the Cincinnati Sustainability Awards with the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Cincinnati/Dayton City Center, the American Society of Interior Designer (ASID) Cincinnati/Dayton and the Miami Section of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
