Kleingers & Associates was hired to provide site surveying and design services for a three-story building addition and a large parking lot expansion for the North College Hill campus of Cincinnati Children's Hospital. This expansion was challenging due to the tight site conditions and the owner's desire to preserve the wooded setting. The K&A team worked very closely with the owner and the client to hold the necessary side yard buffer areas and minimize disturbance to the surrounding mature trees and wooded hillside. K&A's approach to the design helped to preserve several large trees, minimize retaining wall heights, and improve security and visibility. The slope of the site required special attention to ensure the handicapped accessibility of the front entrance. The design team was able to provide this accessibility in a manner that worked with the owner's desires for aesthetics and architectural style. Additionally, K&A helped achieve project goals by shepherding the project through the jurisdictional approval process with the Metropolitan Sewer District of Cincinnati for a new sanitary service on an adjacent City-owned property which was located downstream of the OhioEPA-regulated Combined Sewer Overflow.
