3D Laser Scanning allows surveying with new technological depth

Kleingers & Associates implements 3D Laser Scanning Technology

(West Chester, OH) Kleingers & Associates has formed a team of engineers and surveyors to provide 3D Laser Scanning services to clients with projects that may otherwise be difficult to measure accurately. Laser scanners measure large surfaces with no direct contact, therefore any objects such as buildings, bridges, roadways, machines, etc. can be documented in 3D with a high level of detail. "Engineers and surveyors no longer need to scale heights or lean out of windows to acquire measurements of structural components; or work in the midst of heavy traffic to acquire roadway or bridge data," states Adam Clouse, manager of the K&A 3D scanning team.

3D high definition laser scanning technology offers the benefits of speedy data collection (as many as 5,000 points per second) as well as the production of precise and comprehensive data. Once the data is collected, the points combine to form a photo-realistic spatial image known as a point cloud. Post processing of the data can provide volume calculations, cross-sections, contours, and 3D CAD models with multiple views. The 3D laser scanning technology is ideal for generating the information needed for Building Information Models (BIM) as well as reverse engineering applications in the industrial or manufacturing industries.
