(CINCINNATI, Ohio)—For the second consecutive year, Kleingers & Associates, a civil engineering and land surveying firm based in West Chester Township, has been named one of the “Best Civil Engineering Firms to Work For” nationally by CE News, the industry journal for civil engineers and survey professionals.

K&A, which employs more than 90 associates, is again the only firm in the tri-state region—Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana—to make the list, improving its rank to 30th in 2006. Competing firms ranged in size from 20 employees to 2,025.

Now in its sixth year, the competition recognizes 50 “destination workplaces”—civil engineering firms that score high in aspects such as culture, benefits, performance/recognition, compensation, professional development, recruiting/retention and more. Rankings are determined by scores from comprehensive surveys completed by management as well as employees.

“We’re delighted to have made the list again this year,” said K&A president and founder Jim Kleingers. “We readily acknowledge that our people are our most important asset and we want them to be happy and productive. It’s especially gratifying to be recognized independently as an industry leader in this regard.”

Founded in 1993, Kleingers & Associates offers development services for the residential, commercial and industrial markets. In addition to its West Chester headquarters, K&A has offices in Columbus and Dayton.

(CINCINNATI, Ohio)—Kleingers & Associates, a civil engineering and land surveying firm based in West Chester, has launched a new Development Services Division to provide planning, zoning and project financing services for its private- and public-sector clients.

Directing the new division is Jay Stewart, a land-use attorney and former development director for the City of Monroe in southeast Ohio. Company president Jim Kleingers said Stewart’s expertise will allow the company to offer a comprehensive range of land development services. “Jay’s 14 years of experience in public-sector zoning and project financing, combined with his legal experience representing clients in zoning matters, is a great complement to our engineering and surveying services,” he said.

Stewart earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law and completed a Masters in Urban Planning from Miami University.

K&A is the only firm in the tri-state region—Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana—to make the list, the magazine’s fifth annual nationwide ranking.

The competition’s purpose is to recognize and reward civil engineering firms that have outstanding workplace practices and an overall focus on people. Rankings are determined by scores from comprehensive surveys completed by management as well as employees.

Competition organizers say no single factor is most important in determining rankings. “We look at the whole picture of a firm,” writes editorial director Shanon Fauerbach, P.E., “evaluating and comparing their culture, benefits, performance/recognition practices, compensation, professional development programs, recruiting and retention efforts and more.” Competing firms ranged in size from 20 to 1,640 employees.

Founded in 1993 with just five employees, Kleingers & Associates has grown to more than 90 associates in two offices: West Chester and Columbus, OH. That growth has been fueled in part by rapid development in West Chester and Liberty Township—from housing and schools to retail and industrial sites, all in need of site design and survey services. “We were certainly in the right place at the right time,” says company president and founder Jim Kleingers, P.E., P.S. “But our success is really due to the outstanding people who’ve joined K&A, the chemistry of our team and the relationships we’ve built with our clients.
